A real person reads every message.
The app sends us no logs or diagnostics, so please tell us your Windows version (press Win+R, type winver), the app version (in the app's settings, under About), what you did, and what happened. A screenshot helps.

Voice following can't hear me
Windows decides which apps may use the microphone. Open Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone (on Windows 10: Settings → Privacy → Microphone) and check that:
- Microphone access is On;
- Let apps access your microphone is On, and CuePrompt is On in the list below it;
- Let desktop apps access your microphone is On.
When access is blocked, the app tells you and offers a button that opens this Settings page. Then:
- In the app's settings, pick the microphone you're actually speaking into — a headset, a USB microphone or the laptop's built-in one.
- In Windows Settings → System → Sound → Input, speak and check that the volume bar moves. If it doesn't, the problem is the microphone itself or its driver.
- Your meeting app can use the same microphone at the same time. If you still hear nothing, close apps that may hold the microphone exclusively (some recording tools do), then try again.
Voice following isn't keeping up
- Use a close microphone. A headset or a microphone within arm's reach beats a laptop microphone across the room. Headphones also stop call audio from the speakers reaching the microphone.
- Read naturally. There's no need to slow down or over-articulate. Pausing, stumbling or repeating a phrase is fine: the prompter waits and doesn't run ahead.
- If it loses you, keep reading. It finds your place again within a few words, even after you skip a paragraph. Or nudge it with Ctrl+Alt+Up / Ctrl+Alt+Down — your hotkeys always win over the automatics.
- Stage directions go in [square brackets]. They're shown, but the prompter doesn't wait for you to say them.
- Unusual names and jargon may be recognised less reliably. Saying the surrounding words is usually enough for it to stay with you.
- Language: this version understands English only. For scripts in other languages, use constant-speed or manual scrolling.
- Free minutes: the minutes left today are shown before you start. When they run out mid-take, the prompter continues at your speaking pace instead of stopping; it is not a fault.
The prompter shows up in my screen share
Hiding the prompter from screen sharing and recording is a Pro feature, and it's on by default once you have Pro. Things to know:
- It needs Windows 10 version 2004 or later. On older versions, Windows can only black the window out, so your audience sees a dark rectangle instead of your text. The app warns you when that's the case.
- It works with apps that capture the screen through Windows: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, OBS Studio, the Snipping Tool and the Xbox Game Bar, among others. You see the prompter on your screen; your audience doesn't.
- If you share the prompter's own window, people see an empty or black window. Share your screen or another app's window instead.
- A phone or camera pointed at the screen, or a hardware capture card, records the physical display — they will see it.
- Always do a short test call before an important one: share your screen and ask someone (or a second device) what they see.
The prompter isn't staying on top
- The prompter stays above normal windows and full-screen slide shows. Press Ctrl+Alt+H to hide it and again to bring it back.
- If you can't click the app underneath, click-through is off: press Ctrl+Alt+T. If you can't click the prompter, click-through is on — press it again.
- Some games running in exclusive full-screen mode draw over everything, including the prompter. Switch the game to borderless or windowed mode.
- If you unplugged a monitor and can't find the prompter, show it from the tray icon or with Ctrl+Alt+H.
Hotkeys
These work from any app, so you can control the prompter without leaving your meeting. You can change each of them in the app's settings.
| Action | Default |
|---|---|
| Start / pause | Ctrl+Alt+Space |
| Faster | Ctrl+Alt+Right |
| Slower | Ctrl+Alt+Left |
| One line back | Ctrl+Alt+Up |
| One line forward | Ctrl+Alt+Down |
| Click-through on / off | Ctrl+Alt+T |
| Show / hide the prompter | Ctrl+Alt+H |
If a combination is already taken by another app, Windows won't let two apps share it; the app tells you and you can pick a different one.
Foot pedals and clickers
Pedals and presentation clickers that act like a keyboard work out of the box: Page Up / Page Down, the arrow keys and the mouse wheel scroll the prompter when it has focus.
During a call, focus is usually on the meeting app, so plain keys would go there instead. If your pedal's software can send key combinations, map the pedals to the global hotkeys above — for example Ctrl+Alt+Down and Ctrl+Alt+Up — and they work no matter which app is in front.
Scripts
- Scripts save automatically as you type, and are stored only on your PC. If the app or Windows crashes, your text is there when you reopen it.
- Import .txt, .md and .docx files, or paste text from anywhere.
- Deleted scripts go to the app's trash first, so you can restore them.
- Uninstalling the app deletes your scripts. Copy anything you want to keep into a document first.
Pro
- Pro is a one-time $9.99 purchase (the Store shows the price in your currency) through the Microsoft Store, inside the app. It adds unlimited voice following, hiding from screen sharing and recording, and mirror mode.
- Pro belongs to the Microsoft account you use in the Microsoft Store. On another PC, sign in to the Microsoft Store with the same account and install the app.
- Bought Pro but don't see it? Open the Microsoft Store app, make sure you're signed in with the account you bought it with, then restart CuePrompt. Pro works offline after that.
Refunds
All payments go through Microsoft, so we can't see or refund them ourselves. To ask for a refund, go to account.microsoft.com/billing/orders, find the order and choose Request a refund. Microsoft decides under its own refund policy and the consumer law where you live; under that policy, in-app purchases are not always refundable.
If you're stuck, or something about Pro didn't work as promised, write to support@alkorlabs.com and we'll do what we can to help. And because voice following is free for 10 minutes every day, you can try it properly before you buy.
