Getting started

Can readings come in automatically?

No. Fingerstick is manual entry only — no meter or CGM connection, by design. You type each number yourself, so the app never gets stuck waiting for data.

To log a reading: open the app, type the number on the keypad that is already open, pick a tag (for example Fasting), and tap Save.

Readings you already have elsewhere can come in two ways: if another app saves them to Apple Health, use Import from Apple Health (free); if you have a CSV file from another logbook, use Import CSV (Pro).

mg/dL or mmol/L: which should I use?

Use the unit your doctor and your test strips use. In the US that is usually mg/dL; in many other countries it is mmol/L.

Change it any time in Settings → Units. Your whole log, charts and PDF switch over. Fingerstick keeps each reading exactly as entered, so switching back and forth does not change your numbers.

For reference: 1 mmol/L is about 18 mg/dL, so 100 mg/dL is about 5.6 mmol/L.

Moving from another app

How do I move my history from another app?

The easiest way is through Apple Health. Many diabetes apps save readings to Health.

  1. In your old app, make sure saving to Apple Health is turned on, and let it finish.
  2. In Fingerstick, go to Settings → Apple Health → Import from Health.
  3. Allow Fingerstick to read Blood Glucose (and, if you like, Carbohydrates and Insulin).
  4. Check the preview and tap Import.

You can run the import again later. Readings that are already in your log are skipped, so you won't get duplicates.

Can I import a CSV file from another logbook? (Pro)

Yes. Most logbook apps can export a CSV file (a spreadsheet saved as text). With Pro:

  1. Save the CSV file from your old app to the Files app (or open it from Mail).
  2. In Fingerstick, go to Settings → Import CSV and choose the file.
  3. Fingerstick guesses which column is the date, time, reading, unit, tag and note. Fix any column it got wrong.
  4. Look at the preview: it shows how many readings will be added and how many are already in your log. Tap Import.

The unit (mg/dL or mmol/L) is detected from the file. A minimal file looks like this:

Date,Time,Glucose,Unit,Tag,Note
2026-10-01,07:05,104,mg/dL,Fasting,
2026-10-01,13:30,152,mg/dL,After meal,pasta

If your file won't import, e-mail us the first two lines of it (you can replace the numbers) and we'll help.

Your doctor

How do I send the PDF report to my doctor?
  1. Open the Report tab. The last 30 days are selected; this is free.
  2. Optionally add your name and check the target range shown at the top.
  3. Tap Share, then choose Mail (type your doctor's address), Print, Save to Files or AirDrop.

The report has a summary, two charts, a logbook grid with every reading by time of day, and a list of the readings that have notes. It prints well in black and white. Reports for longer or custom periods are part of Pro.

Many clinics use a patient portal: save the PDF to Files first, then attach it in the portal's app.

What target range should I set?

The range only decides the colors in your log and the "time in range" number. Fingerstick starts with a common default, but your targets are personal. Discuss your targets with your doctor and change them in Settings → Target range.

Purchases

What is the difference between Pro Lifetime and Pro Yearly?

Both unlock the same Pro features. Pro Lifetime is a one-time $12.99 purchase that never expires. Pro Yearly is $9.99 per year and renews automatically until you cancel. No subscription is required: everything outside Pro is free, with no limit on readings.

How do I restore my purchase on a new iPhone or iPad?
  1. Sign in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to buy Pro.
  2. In Fingerstick, go to Settings → Restore Purchases.

Pro unlocks again at no charge. If it says nothing was found, check that you're signed in with the right Apple Account.

How do I manage or cancel the yearly plan?

Apple handles the yearly plan. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions → Fingerstick. You can cancel there at any time; Pro stays on until the end of the year you paid for. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.

For a refund, use Apple's page: reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't issue refunds ourselves because Apple processes the payment.

Your log never depends on the plan: if Pro ends, all your readings stay, and the free features keep working.

Keeping your log safe

How does iCloud sync work?

Turn on Settings → iCloud sync. Your log is kept in your own private iCloud, so it appears on your other devices and on a new iPhone or iPad signed in to the same Apple Account. There is no Fingerstick account, and we can't see your data.

If readings don't appear: check that iCloud is on for Fingerstick in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud, that both devices use the same Apple Account, and that you have some free iCloud storage. Sync can take a few minutes on cellular data.

How do I back up my log?

Go to Settings → Backup → Save backup. Fingerstick creates one file with your whole log and lets you save it to Files, iCloud Drive or another place you choose. To restore, go to Settings → Backup → Restore and pick the file. Restoring adds missing readings and does not create duplicates.

The backup file holds your health information, so store it somewhere private.

Can Fingerstick tell me what to do about a reading?

No. Fingerstick is a log for your own records. It is not a medical device and does not give treatment advice or insulin doses. If a reading worries you, contact your doctor. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.
